Blackjack
Rules - learn what you can and can not do when playing blackjack
Object:
Blackjack
is played between the dealer and a group of players. The object
of the game is to beat the dealer not the players around you. Beating
the dealer means having a hand that is higher than the dealers but
does not exceed 21. Because the most common game in Vegas is multideck
games the discussion below will be focused on multideck games.
Value
of Hand:
The
value of the hand is the sum of its cards. Card values are as follows:
- Face
cards count as 10
- Aces
count as either one or 11, player's choice.
- All
other cards count as their face value.
Mode
of Play:
Play
begins with each player placing a bet. The dealer then deals each
player and himself two cards. The dealer will have one card down
and one card up, the players will be dealt both cards face up. The
card the dealer has showing is the the upcard, the card face down
is the hole card.
After
the initial deal, the dealer then deals to each player individually
until the player busts or stands, the dealer then moves on to the
next player. A player can continue to take hits (draw cards) until
he or she wants to stand (stop drawing) or until the hand goes over
21, called a bust. Players can hit or stand on any card total of
21 or below. After all players either stand or bust the dealer then
plays out his hand.
Winning:
You
win at Blackjack by beating the dealer's hand with a hand of 21
or less. You lose if you have less than the dealer or you bust (over
21)
If
you tie with the dealer, it is called a push, and neither side wins.
The
dealer settles all bets at even money except Blackjack which is
paid at 3 to 2. Balckjack is when you are dealt 21 in two cards.
